I play a passionate, sensual girl in 'Rang Rasiya': Nandana Sen

The movie is a biopic of the legendary Indian painter Raja Ravi Verma who, more than a century ago, painted his muse Sugandha in representation of different goddesses of Indian mythology. Actor Randeep Hooda plays the painter while Nandana plays his muse.

"Indian mythological figures have fascinated me since my childhood and through the character of Sugandha I will be portraying all these immortal characters in the movie," Nandana is quoted as saying by a news agency.


Talking about her character in the film, Nandana says: "Sugandha was a strange mix of child-woman. She was very passionate, loving and sensual girl. She was also a very complex character with a mix of vulnerability and strength, and the fact that she was so beautiful to inspire an artist like Raja Ravi Verma makes her a dream character," says Nandana.

However, the film has already raised many a hackle because of the skin show by Nandana and also because certain groups might raise objection to Nandana depicted in forms of Indian goddesses.

"We are not trying to sensationalise the subject. It is a very serious film and we have tried to bring the struggles of Raja Ravi Verma very sensitively. It would be ironic if something like that happens to this film as it would be a repeat of what Raja Ravi Verma and Sugandha faced 130 years ago," she says.

Raja Ravi Verma had faced a lot of flak from religious groups for painting his muse as a goddess.
